Recycle Christmas Trees In Los Angeles With Curbside Collection Or A Visit To Drop-Off Sites

Start the new year off right by taking care of one last holiday task -- recycling the Christmas tree. Each year nationwide, Christmas trees are responsible for over 200 fires, notes the LA Fire Department. The result? An average of 10 deaths and over $10 million in property damage.

That's why the City of Los Angeles offers a tree recycling program, which last year converted 100,000 trees into 1,300 tons of compost.

Save your sparkly shrub from turning into a burning bush by doing one of three things:

  • Cut the tree into smaller pieces and place it in your green yard trimmings bin.
  • If you don't have a saw, place your tree next to your green bin on trash collection day.
  • Drop off your tree at any one of LA's official drop-off sites Sunday, Jan. 6 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Goodbye, o Christmas tree!
