Washington lets several defensive coaches go
It didn't take long after watching Washington yield 67 points in its Alamo Bowl loss to Baylor for the school to decide to let go of defensive coordinator Nick Holt along with two other defensive assistants.

The school announced in a press release Saturday that it would not bring Holt back next season, nor would it retain linebackers coach Mike Cox or secondary coach Jeff Mills.

The release attributed the move to head coach Steve Sarkisian, who had been their boss since 2009.

"I want to thank Nick Holt, Mike Cox, and Jeff Mills for their hard work and dedication throughout the last three years," Sarkisian said in a statement. "They were instrumental in the leadership and development of countless young men, and they have left our program in a better place.

"I am grateful for their service to our program and to the University of Washington and I wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

The release said the school would soon undertake a nation-wide search for the coaches' replacements, but added there would be "no further comment on this matter at this time."

The Huskies lost to Baylor 67-56. They actually contained Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III to just one touchdown pass, though he also ran for one. But running back Terrance Ganaway instead ran all over Washington, gaining 200 yards and scoring five touchdowns.

The Huskies defense gave up 30 or more points seven times last season and 60 or more twice.
